I'm a new member here, this is my first post and i just picked up a 86 GN with 59K original miles I have always had mustangs in the past and i have a few questions about my new car this a totaly new animal to me.

I don't like the fact that the Gn doesn't have any guages in it and want to add a water temp and oil press guage, where is there a place to add a mechanical water temp in the intake?

second thing i'm wondering is are the tps sensors adjustable on these turbo 3.8 engines? or should i just replace it, the car a spot where it stumbles and only does it at one spot when your accelorating

thanks!

The tps sensor is adjustable (slotted) but if ya think it is the cause of the stumble replace it. There is a sensor on intake at driver side front that could be tapped for a mechanical gauge and welcome.:)

Welcome to the world of turbo regals! What mods do you have on the car right now?

Before you add any new mods or adjust anything your not sure about use all the information that this board has to offer. Use the search function...I will bet for sure that it has been covered plenty of times whatever it is you want to do.

the car is pretty much stock right now except:

removed cat
flex-alit dual fans
flowmaster cat-back (need a replacement exhaust sounds like terd)
adjustable wastegate

I'm looking to replace the exhaust ASAP any recomendations? and i heard that there is some sort of trick that you can do to vacum hose near the blower to give it a few more psi is this true?

thanks!

The first thing you need to do is:

-Fuel Pump upgrade
-Hotwire kit for said fuel pump
-Adj. Fuel Regulator

After you cover your base with that you start playing with the boost. As far as exhaust, the 2.5 inch Hooker Exhaust is widely considered the best for the money and lack of drone. I think it is 16810 on Summit.

Second thing after scan tool is a knock gauge. Keeps you informed before you blow it up. Been there done it. Brad

Get the scanmaster first so that you know what you're working with. TPS and IAC is usually a stumbling culprit. Do not change anything until you know it's bad by adjusting as per the scanmaster.

As for the knock sensor, I have one and it's not really necessary IMO because the scanmaster will tell you with a numerical value what's happening. The knock sensor merely lights up. Further, the knock sensor is VERY bright and quite a distraction in a darkened cabin. ( and mine is located in the dual console pod)

BTW, Welcome to the Dark Side...

You have a knock GAUGE. "Every" TR has a knock sensor...

Welcome

Howdy. You will enjoy the car

Where are you located? Maybe one of us is nearby and can help you in person.

Can't sleep without thinking about all the crap I need to do with my TR's :D

First and last conscience thought, no bs. I'm hoping to rectify that by finishing most of my 87 conversion next week, but I am going to have to really boogy to get it done.

Does the scan master come with some sort of operaters manual?

i'm located in Central, NC just south of cary anyone on here in the area?

thanks!

ow and one more question may be a stupid one though, should the water temp light come on when you turn the switch on like all the other warning lights or not?

thanks!

the scanmaster does come with a manual and if not you can download it or come on the board and get help.

If you wire the gauges properly, they will illuminate when you turn on the lights

Here's some scanmaster stuff:

Scanmaster II

A lamp needs 12V and ground, right? Your 12V source should be the "same" as the dash lights if you want the gauge lamp to operate in a like manner (off/on/dim)...

Welcome to the world of GN's!

I wanted to welcome you to this board and to the wonderful world of GN's but also would like to encourage you to do a lot of reading and take advice from knowledgeable people who know GN's.

Here are some websites that you will find useful:

The first one is Full Throttle (This is where you can pick up a Scan Master)

FULL THROTTLE SPEED - Store Front Page

search the web

Vortex Turbo Buick Performance

Hope this helps! Good luck and have fun.
