Anybody heard of any new very recent proposed overtime law changes?
Might be Kalif only, I don't know. Basically, they, whoever they is, big brother probably, is trying to change the basic workweek hours limit to include up to 12 hours a day without overtime and to include Saturdays into a standard work week to avoid overtime. All of you heavy overtime workers, but maybe Kalif only, bye-bye time & a half. Of course this may not affect unions. Anybody hear anything?

This debate has been going on for a few years now......just another way to stifle and kill the middle class.

Yeah thats some ****. I hope somthing like this doesn't go into effect.

great, that's perfect. yeah, there's another way to stick-it to the worker bees!

as a mechanical engineer, everything I do is deadline driven so it's pretty common to work 50+ hours a week already and we DO NOT get any overtime pay what-so-ever...none. but at least I can gripe about it now. if they change the law(s), I won't even be able to BI+c# about it anymore.

Sure you can gripe. Your employer will see that 12=8hrs of work...they will ask you to put in no less than 14 hours a day after that. They you can gripe again...

I am salary and it always comes up that I have to put in free time for certain projects. One of my old bosses was very cool in that he would give me time and a half off when I worked weekends. My new boss doesn't, he thinks I should be thankful I am only asked to work a normal 40.

Federal Overtime Laws

I suspect that this is at least part of it.

That website is crap.

It doesn't explain anything or give you a link to a website that explains anything.

It assumes you are too stupid to read the facts and make an informed decision.

No wonder lawyers have such a bad reputation.

It appears that The change was trying to do 2 things:

Allow for more than 8 hours to be worked in a day (IE 4/10's or 3/12's) without paying overtime. Anything over 40 hours is still OT.

Allow for 80 hours to be worked in a 2 week period without paying overtime (70/10... 80/0, 50/30, etc.) If they make you work 80 hours in one week, you get 7 days of vacation. If you work 40 hours the Next week, it 40 hours of OT. That doesn't sound like a threat to the middle class to me.

Bush Must be EVIL to EVEN THINK of something so dastardly.

There is no government conspiracy to make you work more... I love this stuff... kind of like the federal government dropped the towers... and every weather event is now 'global warming' or 'cooling' depending on the event! :D:D

Oops, my bad for not knowing more before posting up. I was told that it was aimed at working up to 12 a day & Saturdays would be a normal workday without overtime, and I did not look into it. Thanks for the responses.
