"WHAT!?!?!" you say. Yes, sport compacts are fine by me. Yesterday, I went up to Joliet IL to see the NHRA drag races. For the first time in NHRA history, they included FWD and RWD sport compacts as part of the events. After seeing the FWD cars pull low 10's, I was impressed. THEN, they brought out the RWD Commpacts. THESE THINGS ARE FAST!!! One car, (I forget the modle) sponcered by Street Glow, pulled a 6.70 @ 205mph!!! That is THE fastest Sport Compact run ever. Later, I went to the pits and took a look at the engine. It was a four cylinder (140 ci, I think) with what looked like a LT88 turbocharger. This car definatly impresed me concidering that is was as fast as a pro-stock V-8!
Dont get me wrong. Im still going to roll my eyes at the guy with the stainless steal wing and the endless array of decals. HOWEVER, I now know, that these things can be very fast and could some day be major competition for V-8's AND TR V-6's.

Do they get a weight allowance for only running a 4 cyl, or are they the same weight as the domestics???

It is truly amazing what that motor will do.

If there is a Sport Compact event near you, check it out. It's not just ricers and decals. It's modern technology with small displacement engines. The GM team with the FWD Cavalier and Sunfire are equally impressive.

Not sure about the weight allowences. I do know that the cars where only tube chasies and a fiberglass body. Just like the pro-stock. Im definatly going to go to an all sport compact show and see some more of what these cars can do.

Oops, I thought it was a 4 banger. Its still 183 ci though. Quite imprsive.

That ET is old though. He ran a 6.70 @ 205 yesterday (sunday)
