I just bought a 1985 GN turbo, not running. The previous owner replaced the fuel tank and fuel pump. I could see where there had been an extra coil pack laying under the hood. So I already figured it was going to be a no spark situation. I'm just looking for some help in what I should try first, not wanting to waste too much money guessing. I've built quite a few cars but this is my first go around with a turbo GN. Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks

This car is completely stock so would a crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensor being bad kill the spark???? It's getting plenty of fuel.

No spark is the coil pack and or module. Crankshaft and Camshaft sensor would not effect starting, but it would effect while running. Make sure the ECM is plugged up. Near the battery is a fuse like to the ECM. If is it un plugged, the car will not crank.

Tell me is the car completely stock or not has anyone done anything If so do your spring cleaning also check the to make sure the wiring harness is clean not broken and hooked up right. You might have the cam sensor wires and crank sensor wires crossed

Did u get it started?? I built my GN from a short block I had almost every problem u can name hit me up so we can get yours going.

No ....I haven't had a chance to touch it this weekend. I'm working out of town. But you guys are super helpful with the information so far. I will definitely keep you updated on my progress though. Thanks again for all the help.

everyone will try to tell you that these cars are super complicated, and that you need to invoke the proper car gods in the proper manner to get them to run..

but in reality, they are just old style cars with modern style engines that really aren't any more complicated than anything else from the late 80's or early 90's..

20+ years ago I was a NEWBIE... Best advice I can give you is READ and SEARCH. I have 20+ binders of printed sheet s from the Forum. Everything you want to know is there. As far as your car, it is yours to do with as you choose... We have some FAST 84-85 cars... The current Fastest one is driven by the nicest Lady's you will ever want to meet.... unless you are in the staging beams next to her, Ms. Jaime (10.48 on E85), Brent (10.??) MiAde2d (Intercooler/NOS 10.98), Eric and John, both low 11's. Best practice is to learn you car. No one will know your car better than you. Intercooled guys will lead you in the WRONG direction. If you can tune a HOT AIR GN, you can tune anything. You car is going to run its best on the edge... Hot Airs respond to the slightest things... Picky lil heifers.....

Once you get it running you have 1000 options to go FAST.... But I do advise you to research and read. There will be NO Magic parts. If you are up for the challenge, it will be worth it.. They are many 86-87 cars around, but when you pop your hood and it doesn't look like a 86-87 GN, the crowd forms around your car.. especially if you are FAST...
