my car seems to be shifting pretty poorly, more like a granny car then a performance car..

when it was rebuilt i had them build it up and put a shift kit and a restalled converter, the converter stalls around 2800, i like that, but the part i dont like is the way its been shifting...

it started out shifting really nice when i first got it but things have been gradually going down hill, it has 'neturalized', as they call it at the shop, (slipping into netural instead of downshifting) and seems sluggish on shifting, they said this is caused by something breaking up in there and causing 'lazy' or sluggish shifts or even making the valves stick...

what i think is happening is that they are building this transmission to be like that of a little old caddy or what ever you would normally find these trannys in... they told me that the 200-R4 is a very weak transmission and shouldnt even bother with one... i tryed to explain to them that there are guys that are going into the 10's with the 200-R4 built nice..

i asked them what kind of shift kit that they used in the tranny and they told me they used a 'superior'. i havent heard of these have you? i think after i get me fuel mangment situation taken cared of i am going to get a Art Carr shift kit...

the first time i got the tranny done at this place it broke less than 500 miles later because of a thrush washer broke, they told me this is caused because of pounding on the tranny.. i think there are a lot more people beating on these trannys harder than i am...

anyone have any ideas?? any input would help...

No offense, but I would steer clear of any transmission shop that gives you b.s. excuses like they did. Did you have a BRF core when you took the car in? Is that what they put back in? There is no reason for the soft shifting unless they gave you a generic 2004r from another car such as a Caddy.

last time i checked it was a BRF tranny, but fore some reason i dont think it has the valve body anymore. do you think i could pick up a good valve body off of here for cheap??

ugh.... thanks for the help

Drop the pan and make sure it still has the correct valve body. If it is missing it, then go get it back! A good BRF core transmission costs between $300 and $600. Most of that is the valve body since it is the hardest item to find for the trans. A valve body can cost upwards of $400 alone. Its funny since many shops will remove them from transmissions since they know they are rare and worth $$$

y7ou may have the correct valve body ,but from what it sounds like you have a loss of pressure or lo line pressure causing inadequate clamping forces to be generated at the friction elements.a brf valve body will give you a 4900 to 5200 rpm upshift at full throttle with the tv cable proprly set so the first step in identifying the problem/problems is seeing if you can attain these rpms during automatic wide open throttle upshifts.if you can then have a pressure gage installed and make sure you have proper pressures .if you need additional info call us and we will help out. be aware however that neutralizing on a forced kickdown IS USUALLY ALWAYS CAUSED BY LO LINE PRESSURE AND OR A SLIPPING CLUTCH SO dont be upset if you find the trans has to come out again.www.ckperformance.com

Chris have you ever heard of a thrush washer breaking like they said? and do you want to teach me how to build trannys? :D

thanks

well i was paying really close attention to how my tranny was shifting, and at WOT it seems pretty good, but when driving it around like a normal person  the 1-2, 2-3 shifts seem sloppy, and OD comes in either really strong, or it seems to 'take its time'

chris are you going to be in your shop tomorrow (saturday)? or do you have a number that i can reach you at over the weekend? i would like to talk to you, thanks..

-neil

alright chris i got to work today, so i dont know when exactly i will call you, but i will give you a buzz

thanks
