Hello guys . 1st post on this forum. I have just purchased a 98 GTP 4dr with 104k. The car developed a serious trans fluid leak. I will lay down a puddle with only 5 mins idle time. I have yet to take a look under there as I have not taken delivery of the car. The car was female owned and she never got the leak fixed...

Are trans leaks common to this family of cars ?

Another question... This GTP also has the ratteling noise from the SC. I have read that this is usually the coupler , but how often is it the bearings themselves? Can these be done at home?
Or would it be more beneficial to buy the new snout and have then do a smaller pulley at the same time?

On a final note is there a page with recipes like we have done with the TR's???

If you are wondering i got a hell of a deal on this car even if the trans is shot.

Thanks

Trans leaks are definitely not common on these cars. It could be a number of things, but I would probably suspect one of the 2 half shaft seals. You are going to need to get under there and take a look.

Most likely it is the SC coupler. The bearings do go bad every once in a while, but not too often. The coupler replacement is fairly simple and can easily be done at home.

Recipes? Well, not really, but take a look at this page, it has some pretty useful information for beginners:

Louie,

Check out www.clubgp.com for all your GP questions.

If the supercharger is rattleing bad, its the coupler, I had a car that had a really bad rattle. It is a pretty straight forward change, about 30 dollars from ZZP and dosen't take too long.

As far as the trans leak, maybe its just a line going in or out... read up on the clubgp forums, alot of guys are now putting turbo's and stuff on their GP's and puting up some good hp numbers and times.

Guys , thanks for the info, I will check the links out.

Murt,
Funny u mention the turbo thing.. I have just parting our my Street TType and was considering keeping the PT67. I purchased a tig welder several months ago...

Hummmm... i wonder what I could use all that stuff for ?

Well the car is here and the leak is actually coming from the Trans cooler lines.

I will be fixing that tommorow.

The SC shaft seal is shot and the coupler need to be replaced for sure.

I have already started working on a cold air system. I tried to join the ClubGP forums. I guess i wasnt accepted because i never got a confirmation email to activate the account.

So i will just work at it thru here..

Well, then come join the friendly Regal GS board (geared toward the 97-current Regals, which is the same as the GP). No activation required. ;) www.regalgs.org

Yeah even if it is a GP. Stay with the Regal family for advice. Usually on the Regal GS board you will get some great assistance and more straight up answers.
