I just picked up an 87 Turbo T today, and the car has some modifications already done to it. The previous owner bought the car, and it was sitting for a few years, with maybe 300 miles driven. He said that the owner before him upgraded the car, but he isn't too sure of everything exactly.

Car seems to idle nice, and pulls pretty hard for 10 PSI of boost.

I had my friend take a look at the car, he owns a TTA, to make sure i was getting a good deal. He said the car has for modifications:

Duttweiler neck on intercooler
old school ATR cold air box behind front bumper
Hooker Super comp headers
009 injectors
Accell yellow wires
bleeder valve
oil cooler in front of radiator
Rebuilt tranny that shifts firm
coolant bypass
The previous owner said fuel pump is upgraded
The turbo has a TA inlet bell, and stock turbo shield, I am not sure what size the turbo is, is there any easy way to tell?

My friend told me the hooker headers have a bad wrap for slow spoolup, and that it can trigger codes, the SES light comes and goes off. Would it be worth it to switch back to stock headers?

What would be reccomended modifications that I do to my new T to make it quicker? I am thinking a scan tool, AFPR, dump pipe, and a newer chip to at least get it running right.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Jerad

I would start with the scan tool first and see what you have.
You can look at www.gnttype.org and there is a photo guide for turbos.
Is the 10psi with a stock or after market guage?
Is the ATR cold air system the one in a cannister?

Yeah, I think the mods you listed are good. Sell the headers if they are in good shape, make some money, and put the stockers back on. Headers are the #1 unnecessary mod for these cars.

ES1- the 10 psi was with an aftermarket gauge, the ATR cold air system is called "RAMBLO" its a blue box behind the front bumper, i'll probably take that off and just use a K and N cone.

The headers appear to be in decent shape, but I do not know if I can get them off myself.

The car right now has a stock downpipe on it, if i upgraded to a bigger downpipe, would the spoolup time for the turbo be quicker?

I'll check out the pictures from gn ttype and see if i can identify my turbo, thanks

Jerad

car should be able to do 15psi on pump gas but you need a scantool or knock detector.
I have heard the ATR system (don't know if it's the one you have) can suck the filter flat
I would leave the headers on and get with Eric Stage I and get a custom chip. If the turbo spools to slow from the headers, he can make some adjustments in your chip.
I would leave the DP alone and get or port your stock elbow.
You need
Scantool
AFPR
Chip
Gut the cat if you can
Make sure you have some good flowing mufflers
Box the LCA
