It figures since I bit the bullit and got a bar this year. :(

Thank goodness I ran an 11.47. :D

Just when I'm happy with my times, because of being on the edge of needing a bar! ....................Did some stuff to the suspension, hoping for a mid 11 on C16.

Thanks for the info! I guess if it don't do a mid 11, I'll have to buy a set of heads or upgrade turbo/injectors;)

That still leaves me out. That is my next purchase is a roll bar since i have been kicked out many of times.

Now, I can go to my local track ( 25 min away). If, I put only 93 in the tank and get keep the boost under 19. :D

Awsome. Maybe I'll have to get a new turbo after all. I wasn't planning on going any faster, but now...

I've read the rule, but have heard a bunch of comments that this only applies to newer (or unmodded) cars. Anyone have the scoop on this?

Since there is nothing in the rule to suggest any restrictions I would think it is universal, but thought someone might have the straight story.

thanks,
Scott

There have been rumors that it will only be for certain newer cars but it's just rumors This chnage is for all cars regardless of year.

ks:cool:

There was a long post on this some time ago. My understanding was it only applied to certain (shall we call them) "late models" that were (wink, wink) "bone stock"?

Has this rule been extended to all cars now?

And - didn't they mean 10.49 - LOL???

:D

the rules are: if you have a "entirerly stock" car it can run as fast as you want it to without needing any safety stuff, roll bars, drive shaft loop, etc. helmets and fire suits still apply. it was done for all the new cars like the cobras and z06's that sort of cars that are going into the 11's from the factory. nhra figures they must be safe enough if they passes the gov. stuff. it doesn't really apply to any of us.

otherwise the new rule is 11.49 you need a roll bar because your car has been modified to get there, and its not really a bad thing.

Rule Revised from last year..........

This is not the same rule or wording they released last year. Here’s the rule in whole as it reads from their web site. Says nothing about newer cars.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, a roll bar and an SFI 16.1 driver-restraint system will be mandatory on any vehicle running 11.49 or quicker and for convertibles running 13.49 or quicker. An SFI 3.2A/1 jacket will be mandatory for all drivers in vehicles running between 10.00 to 11.49 seconds. On any car running 11.49 or quicker, a flywheel and clutch meeting SFI Spec 1.1 or 1.2 and a flywheel shield meeting SFI Spec 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 will be mandatory. A driveshaft loop will be required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker and utilizing slicks, except vehicles equipped with street tires running 11.49 or slower.

two different sets of rules...

the 11.49 roll bar rule applies to 99% of everyone here

the other new car rule doesn't. http://www.nhra.com/2004/news/june/062202.html theres the info on it. maybe some people can convince a tech guy that their gn is running faster than 11.49 and is completely stock, but i don't think thats going to happen. maybe with a BIG stock appearing turbo, lots of internal stuff, stock location ic, then MAYBE you could pull it off. but its playing with fire, go with a roll bar if your running that fast.

I just called NHRA and confirmed this with an NHRA tech-- the 11.49 rule applies to ALL cars.

Rule say it's applicable after Jan 1st, 2005 maybe that's why? Or maybe they haven't heard about it yet?
