Here is what happened. I was at a dead stop and I accelerated rather aggressively.:D Everything was fine until just after the first to second shift. After it shifted second the car just coasted. I quickly let off the gas and rolled to the shoulder of the road and checked out my problem. The trans wouldn't shift into any gear. It didn't make any noises other than what I thought was a pop/snap sound right when it happened. I took the flywheel cover off and the torque conv is still spinning when the engine is running. All the linkage/plugs/lines seem to be fine. The tranny felt very healthy until this happened. It has never missed or slipped and all shifts were on time and firm. Yes it has fluid in it.

What could this be? Is it an easy fix?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Sounds like the pump rotor may have snapped. My 84 T did this about 5 months ago and I barely made it up the drive at work to get out of traffic. Mine also chewed up the hub on the converter a little bit from the parts riding around in the pump body.

Wendy, I'd say you broke the shaft on the forward input drum. You'll have to replace the drum. Bruce has a better piece, and you might as well freshen it up while it's out.

My Guess is..

Alans guess. Put a pressure gauge on it. Fire motor. If you have pressure then it is prolly shaft. If not , could be pump rotor, but the way you describe sounds like the former, broke shaft.

Thanks guys. I'll make a few calls today. Stay close to the phone Bruce;) . I've taken the tranny out of the car so I can't put a press gauge on it. Appreciate the insight as always.
