No reverse or third

Just bought this car 86 GN, car had no reverse or third' and only when over 40 MPH would it get into overdrive' it really did not want to do it then either!
I figure clutches ? Wrong!
Replaced all the clutches' old ones should have worked' they wert burnt up' so i checked the valve body' nuthing stuck or stopped up' i could see anyway.

Took a chance & put it in the car' absolutly no change,

I have the trans out of the car again & broke down' still cant see reason for this problem' any ideas?

BTW' Im not trying to build it for race' just want it to work the way the fact intended

WHen you had it out did you replace all the lip seals in the drums? and check the rings and ring surfaces also? Sound like you have a bad leak in he direct/reverse drum

Yes i replaced all the clutch piston seals' applyed 3 psi to the reverse clutch pack & had no leaks. Im thinking valve body' but i hate to just guess thats what it is as Im trying to keep cost down. im at the reverce clutches now' I really dont want to go there again being there such a PITA to put back together.

Cant anything be simple on these cars?

Both Common To Another

Crosscheck the center support.
You have no 3rd or reverse. They are one and the same without the forward clutch. If the middle seal on the center support was worn or missing you would have this issue.
If the center seal in the drum was missing and or damaged this would result. If the 3rd/rev ck ball in the bathtub in the case wore through the seperator plate this would happen. Whatever it is it is common to both. They are directly related. I have seen the center bore of the center support spin and cause this. Try changing the center support with NO other changes and see what happens. If you want to send it to us I will ck it for you.
