I replaced my fuel pump aand coilpack/plug wires. It turns out I wired the coil pack backwards and put plug wires on wrong. Car idled rough with no power and white gas smelling smoke coming out the tailpipes and v.c. breather. I changed my chip also (JC 110). Anyways, I wired coilpack right and put plug wires on right. Still no start, no spark with a rapid blinking SES and code 51. I changed ignition module (had a spare someone gave me) coilpack and chip JL93. I also found a 10 amp fuse marked ign that was blown and changed it. I started the car and it fired up and idled smooth for all of 4-5 seconds. Now it won't start again and I can't find anything wrong. Thanks for any suggestions.

I bet you blew that fuse again. You better pull that coil pack and module off again and make sure you did it right. Don't forget the module needs to be grounded to work!

RAPID SES BLINKING SOUNDS LIKE THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE CHIP. AT LEAST PULL IT OUT AND RE-INSERT IT. ALSO DISCONNECT THE ECM WIRE AND RECONNECT.

Thanks for the replies. I've found 2 things wrong. I pulled the chip out (limp home mode) and the car started and ran roughly. So I looked at the chip (JC 93) and found that one of the end pins or little metal tabs was bent out. I'm thinking maybe I twisted it too hard and maybe hurt the prom holder in the ECM to boot. I changed my oil and put in my JL 93 chip and started it up; again rough idle, blinking SES with code 51. Also white smoke coming from tailpipes and d.s. v.c. breather along with raw gas smell. Looked under car for oil leaks a found a small puddle of quickly evaporating red 110 gas. I'm thinking this leak is what made my old 307 pump go out ? I hope I haven't hurt my motor or head gaskets. Any ideas?

DOES IT RUN THE SAME IN LIMP MODE AS WITH THE CHIP IN? PROBABLY SMOKING BECAUSE ECM ISN'T WORKING RIGHT. SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO SWAP OUT THE ECM AND TRY IT OR SWAP ANOTHER COILPAK/IGNITION MODULE.

I hope your right John and it does run the same as with no chip. I'll go look for an ECM tommorrow but just in case how much would you charge for one shipped to 42104? Also, could this damage my car and what about the gas leaking?

i had a gm vehicle that did the very samething one time , it even threw the same code 51 , replaced the prom twice didn't fix it, finally replaced the ecm and it solved all my problems. if your running out of things to try, replace the ecm and see what happens.

One fix at a time.......figure $65 shipped to the great above.;)

Well, I bought 2 used ECM's today and I've got a couple of questions. (1) Is the CALPAC the other smaller chip-looking thing in the compartment? (2) If it is, does it have to be TR specific or will the different ones (got the ECM's out of 86 Olds Delta 231 & 86-87 Buick fwd 231) work too? I didn't know, so I tried them both ways with my old CALPAC and with the other ones; same outcome: no start, no codes thrown. Is there any special install procedure? Thanks.

Are the computers part numbers 1227148? If so, correct ecm. Calpak won't affect your no start problem. If correct part #, then it's another problem. Plugs fouled? Are you sure coilpak is wired correctly? Any problems before you made all these changes? Give more info.

First, let me thank John and everyone who replied as the help was very appreciated. The 2 ecm's I bought were both the correct number but I couldn't get it to start. So I took it to a shop that has built a few TR's and is well schooled (Modern Automotive for anyone who may ever need help here in B.G., Ky) in their idiosyncracies. What they found was one of the wires (orange power wire) going into the ECM connector was slightly pulled out. They fixed it and used one of the other ECM's and now the car runs and idles better than ever. This problem has driven me crazy for the last month and a half and they fixed in over an hour but I'm just glad it's fixed. Thanks.
