Well I returned to Kansas City last Saturday night wondering all the way back why a Buick sponsored event would run a Pro Tree. I talked to several people since I have been back in Kansas City and voiced my concern many times. I just could not understand why the Pro Tree? It was almost like we wanted the Ford guys to win. What were the Buick guys thinking? Most of the Buicks were turbo cars. Why the Pro Tree with a courtesy stage? So the Buicks had no time to build any boost at the starting line? What is the deal here? The Ford guys were our guests. Why did we play by rules that gave them the advantage at the starting line. I just found a tape that I made at the 2000 Shoot out event. I just finished playing it. Guess what? A regular tree! I watched many Buicks starting with plenty of time to build some boost! I am disappointed I wasted my weekend to see what I would classify as a poorly run event. Just how much time does it take to put times in a computer and sort them to develop a ladder for the eliminations. I guess a couple of hours. I know what I will be doing toward the end of October next year and it will not have anything to do with Noble, OK. You might say that I take my Buick and my TTA seriously and you are right. I am very disappointed!

I think its appropriate to give a blunt reply....
If you need something other than a ProTree I suggest what you need is practice.
This comes up every year but the ProTree is BETTER. Really. Combined with the staging rules I wouldnt want it done any other way. I very much want to race next year and hope its still a pro tree then.
Spoolup is a tune/combo issue IMO.

A Pro tree works great if you practice it. This event use to be a Sportsman Tree but way to many Buicks were red lighting and getting burned down at the tree.
You never ever set both lights, go under boost and wait for the other guy.
You tell me how long can you hold a car at the line under boost?

Well that is how I feel about it. Most of the Buick racers have no experience with the pro tree. That is why they kept backing the cars up and restaging. That is why you saw so many 14 and 13 second Buicks. Sure there is always some supporters of anything you want to consider but that does not make it the way to go. We are not John Force! We have to build some boost to get the car to launch. A bit different form building some revs and letting out the clutch when you see green.
It was not because we did not have time to build some boost! I spoke my opinion on the subject and that is how I feel about it. Where does the average Buick guy go to practise the pro tree? Been racing on and off for 45 years and have never seen it anywhere else for the average racer.
Maybe with a over anxious flag man at the begining of my 45 year history. But if the flag man was your friend he would twitch his nose or wiggle his knee before dropping the flag. Of course back then all I had to do is build some revs and let out the clutch.

After Protree, with 30-50 more cars, there are less than 10 redlights total in a race.
Lets face it, the Mustangs have us covered for the top 20 races (10.50's and faster). It's the 80 races that are 11.0 and slower we HAVE to win and it aint That hard to launch an 11 second Buick on a pro tree.
It should be a mash the pedal and go deal.
If your car doesn't spoolup and launch fast enough for a pro tree, that's something you can work on for next year.

Personally I think pro tree is most excellent dudes

I'm sorry your such a sensitive kind of guy, but sometimes you need to give things a little time and have an open mind to change. Change can be good sometimes
A lot of people worked really hard all day (for free) to put on that event and it's a lot more difficult than you could ever imagine if you have never done it.
I don't know how any Buick person could come to something with that many fast Buicks and nice people and not have fun
It was a beautiful day, we raced, we laughed, we made new friends, we saw old friends we hadn't seen in a while, and enjoyed life :smile:
What could be better?

well i see where hes coming from... i can't build boost on the 1st bulb and creep, if it creeps, its not stopping. I didn't have a big problem and pulled a .1 light but it would be nice to get an extra 2 seconds once both beams are lit, i know this isn't gonna happen as its in the setup but a tiny bit more time to build boost would be great. It was also a bit disappointing with how much breakage there was, but again thats not anybodies fault. I was just looking forward to making 9 runs like i did last year. I didn't get much tuning in and it showed with me running a lot slower than last year or even my last time at the track a few weeks ago.

I've been to Noble for 6 years in a row as a spectator and believe me the pro tree has been far kinder to the Buicks.I havent raced in years but would much prefer the pro tree if I were racing my 86 T-Type.
Well looking back and reading the replys I find that I may have over reacted. Seems like some of the died in the wool Buick racers like the pro tree. But what about the ocassional Buick racer? What do they think?
I want to apologize to all the people who worked at the event. I know you worked hard all day for nothing and do not need to hear from a complainer. Thanks for your efforts.

as an occasional racer (usually run the noble event every year and thats it), i dont mind the pro tree. i didnt even practice the light saturday as i was trying to get the car running right. i still managed a .2 light w/o trying hard.
I only run my car at NOBLE!!! I love the prot tree. I really hope you make it back next year and give it another chance. There were some technical difficulties this year but out of the 7 years ive attended, this was the 1st time there have been notable problems. Im sure it will run much smoother next year. Again I had a blast dusting mudstangs this year.
