I picked up an 87 T with low miles a couple of years ago with a regular trans (single wheel grab). I planned on just showing and keeping it factory until now. I would like to do a few basic bolt on upgrades ( 93 chip, 160 thermo, K$N, adjustable waste, and possibly walbro pump). Will the single wheel rear work with good tires or is it strongly recommended to get a limited slip conversion put in. I have access to an Auburn Gear limited slip rear end. Or would you change it out totally? If so, to what? I don't plan on hitting the strip to often, just want to have the capabilty of one heck of a sleeper.

The rear has nothing to do with the transmission.
If only one tire spins, then you have what is called an open differential. Not all turbo Buicks came with limited slip (positraction was GM's name for it...code G80 on inside of the trunk lid)
You have to replace the carrier to add a limited slip differential. I would use an Eaton. The Auburns do not hold up.

positraction is very good for the vehicle as it splits the load on the rear tires equally promoting even tire wear ,increased traction ,andlower ets.www.ckperformance.com the gm positraction units in the 8.5 corporate rear are very durable and a good used one is about 100 bucks if you can find it .it also is available in most other gm vehicles with 28 spline axles making em easy to find if you put the effort into it .

thanks fellas. This will be fun to transform this car step by step from factory to ??? whenever I stop I suppose. I figured I would need to convert to limited slip. I still wonder why they would let cars like these hit the streets without limited.
