I already bought one, but their specs were crap and the arm working length of 49.5" turned out to be 36" or less.

Anyone have one of their hoists that will for sure let me pull the motor and trans from the front without taking off the bumper, etc?

I bought 145881, and am looking at 14588, but so far niether Northern nor the manufacturer (South East something, item SEH4000) can provide specs:rolleyes:.

Thanks,
Tom

The pics of their's look just like mine, thou mine's another brand.

Yep, you need to remove the front bumper, unless you like wrestling. The 1.5" of being too short is a bummer.

Not sure on your situation, but on the TTA I had to borrow a hoist and it wasn't long enough due to the front bumper and the fact that the V6's center of gravity is further back. I ended up going in from the side and it worked fine. Just take the tire off and use a jackstand. HTH

I'm lookin for a long term solution. I also didn't undertand that the 1 ton rating was with the shortest arm. It's only 1/4 ton extended, which I think is close if pulling the tranny too.

Northern's making it right, I just need a model that will work.

I'll also make someone a good deal on the one I have if I get a replacement. I'm just north of Columbus, OH.

I got the same lift and had the same problem. I hadn't considered the working boom length, though, so I didn't try to send it back. I just pulled the engine out from the side. With some wrestling I was able to drop it back in from the front but in retrospect it would have been easier to just pull the front bumper.

Would one of those engine tilters have worked?

Although some may cringe at this, what weve done is redrill a hole further out from the one being used now. On my new cherry picker there is a slot that the pick up chain goes through. Instead I draped the chain out of the front of the boom which gained me another 2 in, so in between the new hole and moving the chain it gave me enough to pull from the front. We have done this on two pullers and both are doing just fine, one of them has been working this way for about 7 yrs.

I put a piece of packing foam in the front of mine. When the foam is touching the bumper I know Im in the correct spot for lowering the motor.

BTW mine is the yellow "Performance Tools" unit.

It will work on the 250 kg (~500lbs). I have the same engine hoist. The engine lift has a factor of safety on it. Cover your bumper with a piece of cardboard to prevent scraping. When propping the motor it will wanna kick foward. Have a friend prevent it from running into the fan. Go slow and take your time and it will be rewarding. You can remove the bumper to get more clearence if you have no help. Oh yea, Do not lift the tranny out with the motor at the 250kg setting. Good Luck.

They ROCK!
I work alone all the time and couldn't pull the motor without one.
Just makes it soo much easier! :)

I'm never gonna finish this car!:(

Thanks all!

Northern would take it back, but I'd have to disassemble, fix the boxes and repackage. I bought it during their free shipping sale, so I only have $150 in it. Northern will extend the free shipping to the other model even if I keep this one, so I'd rather offer it to someone local.

I did get the motor out from the side, and I used a leveler. It seemed to help, but I should have used 4 attachment points so that the engine didn't want to twist as much.

Biggest problem was transferring the engine to the stand!

Tarey has first dibs, I'm asking $150 and won't go below $125. It's bbbblack!

:) :) SOLD :) :)
I'll take it for 150.
I'll get in touch with you to pick it up, but it will have to be taken apart, to fit in G/Fs Blazer.
