hi i am having problems building boost in my 87 gn. the car is all stock except for exhaust and diy alcohol setup with TT chip. i cant build more than 18-19psi, i dont even have my wastegate hooked up. the turbo has a little up and down but no in/out play and spins freely. could i have a boost leak, how big of a leak would cause to losse out on 8-10 psi? how big of an exhaust leak could cause this(obviously i have a cracked header).

I don't understand what you mean when you say you don't have the wastegate hooked up?? How can that be????? Do you mean you don't have the wastegate solenoid hooke up?????

This is a very confusing post!!

You say the car is all stock. Does that also mean a stock non adjustable wastegate actuator???

You elude to the fact it used to make 29# of boost by asking where the 8-10psi got lost. I hope you're weren't making that kind of boost on nothing but alky!!!

what i mean by the extra 8-10psi, is the fact that just about every stock turbo would probably max out at 28-30psi, i dont have a vaccum line hooked up to the wastegate actuator and im only making 18psi.

Maybe your spring in the wastegate is weak. You could wire it shut to be sure just watch the boost REAL close & make sure you have good gas in it. If it makes more boost you should be able to get by with an adjustable wastegate or a heavy duty 18# wastegate.

that makes sense, ill try that. also ill check the diaphram in the actuator. me and a buddy came to that conclusion last night that if its a weak spring and the actuator was leaking then it wouldnt make a difference weather the actuator had a signal line hooked up or not.
