Took the GN out for some test passes today. Worked fine on both passes, then after the 2nd pass it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear.

I did grind some wieght off the govenor spring at the end of last season to raise the shift points. Is it possible that it's something related to the govenor ?

Easy to fix, or do I have to send in for a rebuild ? It probably only has 25 - 30 passes on it....mostly in the mid 10 range.

Thanks.

Clayton,
Sounds like you tossed the governor spring.
Drop the pan, you may get lucky and find it.

You can easily tap the governor and install an 8-32 nylon machine screw if you find the spring was flung out of the governor assembly. They have them at Home Depot in the hardware section. You dont even need to drill the hole before installing the screw. Its already the correct size for the 8-32 tap. The screw will have to be cut down a little but its an easy fix that works and keeps the governor spring from flying out and it wont add an amount of weight that will effect the shift points very much. It clears the governor bore when installed in the case with the cover bolted down. You could use a steel machine screw and lower the shift point a couple hundred rpm's if you feel it was a couple hundred rpm to high previously. Use permanent Loc-tite to keep the screw from ever backing out. No rebuild necessary.
