Has anyone found an exhaust intermediate pipe from cat to muffler that is just like the original which is 2 3/4" O.D. ?
Or have one in good shape for sale ?

re:intermediate pipe

They were still available when pontiac was still in business. Have you tried gm parts direct? I have one i bought a few years ago. i believe they are 3". If i could find an ATR exhaust in good shape i would be willing to sell it.....Dave

Do you happen to have a part# for it?
And is the one you have 2.75" or 3" OD measured in the mid section of the pipe as it does neck down slightly at the ends??
I was just at the parts counter the other day and had him look up about 10 different parts that I once bought justa couple of years ago like the front air dam, intake tube, etc and all was disco'd.
The TTA exhaust is an odd size, 2.75" OD...there are exact duplicates of the 2.5" and 3" OD exhausts that came on some of the other F-bodies of that era that are sold thru Jegs and Summit by Walker. There were a handful of other f-bodies that also had the 2.75" pipe.

Rob part number for the intermediate pipe is 14089477 and also shows up as used on at least the 86 TA ...

I-Pipe

Walker/Dynomax has it 2 3/4 I-Pipe. Go to the Dynomax web site and should be able to get part number from there

re: part number and size

When i go to my storage this weekend i will take pictures and measurements of my NOS one that i have....Dave

14089477 is no longer available from any of the GM online parts houses :(

The measurements I have Dave are the correct ones, I have the factory pipe still on one of my TTAs. Measure that pipe you have and see if its correct.
Pipe is reduced to 2-1/2" outside diameter connection at the muffler, general pipe size is typically 2-3/4" outside diameter. The converter ball flange is 3-1/2" at the widest point of the edge of the opening and reduces down.

The Dynomax/Walker pipes are not correct, they do not have them in 2.75" OD that I could find, a few months ago I checked the various parts # as they were the original maker for GM, but all are 2.5 or 3" unless you have found one recently thats different.

Those look to be the correct measurements sir. Wider in the mid section than at the muffler end, couldn't determine from the pic, but that flange part is exact and the part#.
Let me know if you want to sell that! If you were wanting a 3" setup, Walker has those available with mandrel bends. I beleive the Z28 HO had 3" factory exhaust...why it got 3" and the TTA did not is beyond me :)

re:Part availabllity

When i purchased the intermediate pipe they said there was about 109 of them in stock. I recall paying around $180 for it. I will keep mine for now. I would like to get an ATR full exhaust or even just the piping as i have the mufflers before i would consider selling it. The stock muffler and tail pipes were not available and neither was the ball flange at the cat converter. I did also manage to buy the last two TT/A specific accessory belts left on the planet. When pontiac was going out of business you had to know all the parts would be liquidated. Perhaps PHS (Pontiac Historical Society) will know where they were all sold to.....Those 109 intermediate pipe units left have to be somewhere......Dave

That was GMpartsdirect.com that had them? And about how long ago was that?
Wasn't that long ago that Pontiac went out..but this piep was also used by some of the Camaros. Yeah, they have to be somewhere.
I've got the original muffler and all to the tips, and the converter ball flange...the intermediate pipe was replaced as well as the cat with a straight pipe, so all I need is that one pipe to get it back to 100% stock again.
Thanks for the help and please let me know if you decide to part with it :)

Hello Dave,

Came across this thread while searching the web for I-Pipe #14089477. I've been searching up and down and haven't had any luck finding a new or used one in good-exellent cond.

How long ago did you buy the one in the photos? Would you be willing to sell it? :)

I have a very nice 1988 Iroc-Z convertible that I'm trying to restore to the original factor stock condition. My current I-pipe is welded to a flowmaster muffler that I want to get rid of. I'm also looking for the muffler assy #10113098. My email is sjaluia@wowway.com. Hope to hear back. Thanks!

Salvatore, check out this thread
http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/turbo-trans-am-tech/350947-anyone-used-exhaust-kit-jegs-summit.html

I guess I never came back and updated this thread with what I found...in a nutshell, there is a Walker part # 46669 that is a perfect match except the hanger is made of round stock instead of sheet metal. The descriptions on all websites say this is a 2.5 OD pipe, but the center is 2.75" OD, its 2.5 at the muffler.

Very nice looking Z BTW!

Also, if you insist on an OEM one, I did locate a used one up in Rhode Island that was on ebay, but they refused to ship it if you are close to there or have someone that can pick it during normal business hours and not on weeksends....they wouldn't even have someone there for a Saturday pickup... PM for their info if I can dig it back up.

Thanks for the info. I'd use the Walker part, but I'm on a mission to restore my car to 100% stock. Yeah, I'm aware of the part in RI. It's a last resort if I can't find one closer to Michigan or in newer condition. Really hoping dsmith4994 willing to sell his part shown above :) Thanks for the compliment on the "Z".

I've done asked him a long time ago :) He got it from gmpartsdirect before Pontiac disco'd a few years ago, said they had over 100 of them when he bought it. I contacted them to see if they knew which vendor may have purchased all of them when they liquidated all Pontiac tagged stock and they had no records.

I have another TTA with the factory original exhaust and the Walker part is exact except for the little hanger piece which fits inside the rubber groumet. Walker was the OEM manufacturer for GM.
