Doing a body off restoration and cracked open the transmission out of my 87 gn. Turns out it's a modified og valve body and governor. I only put about 200 miles on it before I ended up tearing everything down. Trsmsision shifted and ran well during those miles but for sure has a front seal and pan leak. Decided to go ahead and pull the pan only to find this isn't an actual brf or even bq vb but a modified og vb and modified governor.

I have no paperwork or idea who did the vb mod or built it. Best I know is the old timer I bought the car off of got this transmission from jack cotton back around maybe 2009 or so. I do have a low milage 87 brf I could pull the valve body and governor off of to make it right. I'm wondering what opinions are on these modified valve bodies and governors vs real deal gn brf parts.

Input shaft check valve has also been removed and I plan on going back to lock up converter for mostly street duty. Unit currently has a art carr deep pan too. I'm guessing I need to send it to a buick 2004r specialist to have gone over so I know exactly what I'm dealing with so since I plan on running over 600 hp at the crank. Let me know what you think.

I don't use the input shaft check with my extreme automatics. It was a non lock up I went back to lock up I did call first and ask Cris, Lonnies 200 guy and he said no problem. Sure enough No problem. and a friend down the street did the same thing with a very old Art Carr No problem.
Both of my Extreme Automatics do not have a BR valve body but he calls them BRC because they a calibrated like a BR.
I think if Jack did it or he had it done it's done right. I would install the lockup valve and new solenoid front seal and pan gasket and call it good.
Your in ILL extreme automatics is just down the road If you want to send it to a shop 600 hp will need his stage II I have put 30K on my stage II and 200 1/4 mile passes 0 problems. and I can send it back any time for a refresh
