Hey everyone. Well, since I bought my car in 2001, I have been correcting mistakes that the guy before me made. Today was the worst day for my car. I have been trying to find a good rebuild kit for the tranny, because that is blown to pieces, litterally. I dropped the oil pan for the motor today, because when I bought the car, I was told the wrong pan is on the car, and that I have an 87 long block. I bought a 20 bolt pan, and dropped the pan on the car, and found out that that pan is also a 20 bolt, but there were only 18 bolts removed...18? I counted the holes on the block, and came up with 19. Is that right???--On top of that, I have a very unpleasant coating of metal shavings in the pan, with multi colored oil that smeels like gas. Thinking that my rings may be bad, I tried moving the flywheel to see any play and found that the crank moves almost an 1/8th turn before the piston moves. So, bearings, possibly rings, and maybe even a crank and camshaft are just a few of the motor problems I got now. Anyone know a good engine kit? I think this car may be done with....:( :( :(
P.S.- I have pics of the block and after the pan was pulled if anyone needs to see the holes I am speaking about. HELP!!!

The pan is either 14 or 20 bolts.

Ah far as the trash in the pan - take a magnet to it. If the magnet picks it up (steel) - you know there is bearing damage. If the magnet doesn't pick it up (aluminum) - its trash from your front cover.

engine

it should be 20 bolts ,i talked to bweavy at gbodyparts and he has a rebuilt long block ready to go for 84-85 cars. andy

looking for 109 block

I am looking for a 109 20 bolt block...does anyone have pictures of one so I can compare mine? Do these blocks require a girdle? My block has 19 bolt holes, and at the very tip hole, there is nothing. Any ideas? Is the bottom of the timing cover missing something? Anyone got good tips to get me out of this mess?

thanks!

John
