Oil change in progress: How much needed for 4.7L Dodge??

2005 Dakota, 4.7L w/auto trans. Owner manual was missing and they haven't sent one to me yet.

How much oil required with new filter??

amazing the amount of oil some of these vehicles hold now days....I used to be in the service industry and especially foreign cars are thirsty!

6 qts for 4.7l engine....it is a lot.

Do you think it's to allow for an extended oil change interval, or because the engine contaminates the oil quicker??

6 qts filled it up right to the full mark. By the way the recommended oil weight is 5-30.

I don't know,but I did do a 10K mile oil change and the oil still looked pretty good.

You ain't kidding,my 06 F150 w/ 5.4 liter engine takes 7 qts.
