Oil Dip Stick

Can someone tell me the length of the dipstick and tube? The one currently on my 87 GN is #25525696 and about 21" from the base of handle to bottom of stick with the tube measuring about 18". I am a bit confused because my 85 T type has #25522646 and is 24" in length with 18" tube. How is there a 3" difference between sticks??

86-87 dipstick & tube mounted at top stud for #3 exhaust primary tube on header.

84-85 dipstick & tube mounted at top stud for #1 exhaust primary tube on header, so these are longer.
