While in the process of torqueing the adapter in place I broke a tab off on the inside and ended up with a major oil leak. Not sure if the o-ring had anything to do with it but I need to know which is the correct size o-ring, I have two that will fit.
Both measure 2.55" ID, one has a cross section of .097" and the other is .135". Which is correct?

Where can I find a new GM adapter? Is it still available from the dealer? I am in need of one now. Thanks

I believe the part #s are :

ADAPTER , OIL COOLER....25530885

SEAL , O RING ....25530999

but I don't know the Oring cross-section.

Do both Orings fit into the Oring groove of the adapter?

I have my adapter off right now, the Oring seems awfully loose. I would have preferred a snugger Oring fit, than stock.

O Ring

Paul,
Kirban has a replacement O ring that is slightly larger than stock. Fits betterWWW.Kirpanperformance.com.

Ok, so no one knows what the cross section of the o-ring is suppose to be?

How about getting a new one, where? Thanks

Paul,

if both Orings fit all the way into the retaining groove, then it seems to me the smaller x-section Oring would fit way too loosely. It could deflect outward under oil pressure, or unknowingly fall partly out of the groove during re-install. So the choice would be clear: use the larger x-section (if it fits).

on the other hand, the big x-section Oring will not fit into the groove, again the choice is clear: use the smaller x-section.

Ideally I'd like to have a "snugness" that's similar to an oil filer gasket, but on my car the adapter's Oring is looser than that: the Oring can fall out on its own.

I thought it was 1/8". I ordered Kirbans part but they took 3 days to put it in the mail so in the meantime I went looking for a generic. Couldn't find a 2.5" ID x 1/8" but did get a 3/16". I stuck it on, what the heck. Seemed to work OK and didn't leak. I could see it between the adapter and engine since it was so oversized.

Kirban's $4 "trick" one finally arrived and it sure looks like the same 2.5"x3/16" as the generic one I bought for about $1. Go figure.
