How do you tell the difference if oil is getting into your motor from the valve seals or from a bad oil control ring?

on the threads eh. are you 100% sure its not coming from the valve covers?

maybe try a compression check. If any of the cylinders are low, try the wet compression check (add small amount of oil to cylinder). if the compression raises in that cylinder I would lean toward rings. or you could do a cylinder leak down test. a faulty PCV may also cause this issue (check to see if there is any oil in the vac block or in the tb). also check to make sure the turbo seal is not leaking. is the oil on all the plugs or just one? if the oil is only on the spark plug threads it may be what Boost231 mentioned (leaky valve cover gaskets). or if you accidentally spilled a little oil during an oil change, the spilled oil may have run down the head and contaminated the spark plug threads.

If it's not your valve covers, it's your breathers leaking down your valve covers. Oil pools in the plug pocket and then the plugs come out wet.
