Oil temp gauge

I'm going to put a mechanical oil temp gauge on my 87. Is there a port on the block or anything?

Get a brass t block and t it off of the oil pressure switch on the front pass side of the block.
I believe some have tapped into the side of the oil pan.

For oil temp you should go in the sump

Ok, I was thinking the pan, are people just removing it and tapping it for the sensor?

That would be the best way.......drill and weld a bung

That's the way I'll do it then, where's the best place on the pan to put it?

IMO middle of drivers side wall 1/4 way up from bottom.
