Well We installed the replacement '87 GN trans with the new hardened stator support in my GN
WELL my friend that installed it and drove it said that it holds 1st gear too long, it won't shift into 3rd, AND the torque converter locks up when the car stops.
Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
I really need my car..and this is really starting to aggrivate me..I havent had it in over a month and now that my brother is goin to school I need my car to get to work, cause I've been using his.
If worst comes to worst Im gonna have to put his GN back on insurance to hold me over..but I REALLY want my car back!!

Dave, check to make sure that your TV cable is adjusted properly, or better yet, make sure you have the right one. That could be causing the hesitation between the shifts. Also, the lockup converter solonoids are notorious for going bad in all 200r4s. I've had to replace mine in all my cars. Last, do you get a check engine light? If so, you could have a bad speed sensor which will give the computer a false signal and throw everything out of wack.

Well I know that he used the TV cable from the trans that was in there before..should that really matter?
The TC locking up as it stops sounds like the TC solonoid..I'll hafta talk to him tomorrow..
Also, I think the speed sensor is bad..but there's no check engine light..what does that throw out of whack??
He said he did some adjusting of the TV cable and it didnt really help.
Could the TV cable be a reason for it not shifting into 3rd gear?
I'm open to ANY ideas..

Maybe I'll try and give bruce a call in a little while..still nobody has any other ideas??
 
The speed sensor tells the computer how fast the car's going. If that is malfunctioning, the computer is locking up the converter at the wrong time. I'm pretty sure that you would get a check engine light if that were the case, though. I don't know what to tell you as far as the tv cable. I know that the hole in the tranny case is the same for alot of GM trannies. Maybe the guy you bought it from put the wrong on in it just to cover the hole. Other than that, I'm pretty much out of ideas.
 
Ok well when my friend put the trans in, he was using the TV cable from the other trans, but we were given a TV cable with the last trans I bought..so we're just gonna switch cables, (I printed out the page on how to adjust the tv cable from GNttype) flush the trans, change the filter and also I called the dealer and left a message seeing if they have a TCC solenoid. So if I get that from them and we replace all of this maybe it'll work?
The fact that it didn't shift into 3rd is what's making me wonder.
I wasnt in the car when it didnt do this so I cant describe what it was like.
Maybe it could be the cable and the adjusting..I hope so cause that would be the easiest.
What do you think?
 
If your car locks up and shutters when you stop its the tcc solenoid. I had the same problem. It didn't want to shift and almost stall when I came to a stop. It wont stall it in reverse if its the solenoid. Do a search for the tcc solenoid there's alot written about it.

Hey guys, i have the digital dash and i get wrong speed info. I thought the dash was screwy, but when i connect my SM 2 i also get the same readings as the dash does. So i figure the my VSS sensor or the speedometer cabling is out of whack.

When on the highway and throttle released the car bogs, this happens at higher speeds like 30+. only if i brake for more than 4 seconds or so the solenoid releases. Im sure my fuel economy is down because of this problem cause i am unable to coast properly.
