I have both a Scanmaster 2.1 and the newest turbolink. I also have a turbotweak chip with the fast update setting. Today i went to record a run. the turbo link was recording and scanmaster on. I was at full throttle and all of a sudden the scanmaster went dead and the turbo link stopped recording and said lost connection. I tried 3 times and everytime it did the same thing. With the turbo link unplugged the scanmaster works fine. And before the turbotweak chip the scanmaster and turbolink worked fine. Today when i went ro read my recording only a few frams were there and then one frame shows 9999.

Anyone else have an issue like this?

Could it be the chip?

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

Just diagnosed the same or similar problem with my car.

My issue was the grounds, normally found at the back of the passenger side head. I had a ground block connected to all of these and then to the battery directly.

However the engine sensors share the same ground at the ECM, so it created a situation where the ECM connections were grounded at the battery while the sensors etc were grounded at the engine.

This created 2 different ground levels that I think were enough to send the ECM ALDL stream into a tailspin causing the loss of signal.

So with this hunch I moved the ground connection from the battery to the engine and it seemed to have cured it.

So with this, I am guessing that the grounds not only need to be clean, but also the same for all sensors and the ECM itself.

If you have the factory grounds untouched, perhaps at least have a look at them and maybe trouble shoot the connections from the engine right to the ECM to look for any faults.

Another thought is that if you are running Alcohol, and the power to the system is through the fuesbox (or any part of the cars power system really) then it sometimes injects enough noise to cause problems with the ALDL. The fix for that is to move the power right the battery or back of the alternator and switch it on/off using a relay.

The T-link is very susceptible to noise due to the aldl port/cable/etc.. The scanmaster is more resiliant. But if you experience "dropped frames" then I would triple check grounding and/or source power to the red wire on the alky kit to the back of the alternator as Mike suggested using a relay.

Wired as follows,
terminals

30 fused 20 amp to alternator
87 red on PAC
85 Ground
86 Ignition

Simple test, run a wire from the alternator to the PAC Red wire and see if the problems go away :)
