Last night I went for a nice highway cruise to test my 199 speedo that i had just installed. After driving a few minutes at about 60mph i noticed when i decelerated it was making a weird noise. Upon further investigation I pinpointed it to when im driving and the vacuum is almost at zero and its just starting to pressurize but then I let off the gas. The place where it usually makes the "pshhhht" noise now it also had a groan that sounds like "uuuhh".
The thing is it still makes plenty of boost and runs like a bandit, all the gauges read correctly and the car feels fine. I know my car and this is not a normal noise. The turbo is brand spanking new and I havent driven car car 200 miles. After speaking to a few people i took the air inlet off and grabbed the impeler shaft and pulled and pushed on it. It moved id say about 1/16 of an inch or more and made a "cu" sound like it had play and then was hitting the housing. I started to take the turbo off leaving the exhaust housing on the car but it wouldnt come out of the housing. Strange i thought especially since i changed the exhaust housing maybe 100 miles ago.so I unbolted it and dropped it off at my local turbo specialist. He tells me he checked it and didnt feel any play in the shaft and theres no evidence of contact, i assured him it had play and maybe because i didnt really let it boost after i startted hearing the noise it hadnt done any damage. I had him overnight it back to the company that makes it and ill wait to hear next week.
he thinks im crazy 75 bucks each way for shipping but i have to have piece of mind. and besides why wouldnt it come out of the housing???
Think im on the right track?

the only ? i can answer is that the exhaust housings and stuff will get stuck... very stuck even after only a few hundred miles. My 44 barely has 12,000 on it and it had to be pressed off at a turbo shop. Anyways good luck with it. If there is play then get it fixed for sure. There is a thin heat sheild on a stock turbobuick right behind the turbo. Mine was vibrating making the same noise so check that if its still on there
