? on wastegate pressure

with the wastegate off the car, zero load and hooked to an air pump on it how much air psi should i get when it just starts moving out, half and full extended? im getting 18 psi to just get it moving, 22 psi half way and 26psi full length. my guess is that it is defective when i borrowed a friend wastegate that leaks with pressures above 16psi. it only took 7psi to get his moving. please help my wife drives the 87 GN more than I do and dont want her to pop a head gasket because i cant lower the boost below 20psi. please help and thanks in advance.

I believe the stock one holds about 10 psi and the boost solenoid bleeds off pressure so it adds another 4-5psi. With everything hooked up the puck starts to open around 10psi and is fully open at 14-15. Sounds like you have a problem.

thats what i thought. i took it off the turbo to test how much pressure it took to see it move and tested a friends leaking one to compare the numbers and wasn't sure if my friends leaking so bad that the numbers were not accurate. i only wish i had a new or a known good unit to try before i bought a new one. thanks very much for the reply and help.
