open loop and knock?

I have Scanmaster and a Lubrant alky chip.

I have a rattle (not knock) that sets off the knock sensor and shows up on the Scanmaster all the time while just driving around BUT it doesn't seem to do it until the engine warms up.

Does the ECM NOT report knock to Scanmaster that it hears while the engine is warming up?

ECM will not calculate knock retard unless the RPM is higher than, I forget exactly but its somewhere in the 1000+ RPM range but less than 2000. You can start the car and fold some paper as a wedge for the throttle lever then use a long extension and tap near the knock sensor then look to see if/what SM is reporting.

But like I said, this happens when just driving around so the RPN's are OK. I do not notice any knock readings on the Scanmaster until the car gets up to runing temp so I was trying to figure out if it wasn't doing it until it got warmed up OR it was doing it, but the ECM was ignoring it because it was still in open loop.
