just wondering.. all you original owners that bought your cars new in 82,83,84,85,86,87..

what was the price on the window sticker?

I'm the second owner, but I have the window sticker for my 1986 T-Type.....$18300.

Stickered around $17,600, I think.

I'll have to look around for the paperwork. Window sticker was around $17,600 or so. Hardtop car. More like low $18 K out the door....taxes, dealer prep, Scotchguard, paint sealant and all the other CRAP I bit on. BTW, the paint still looks like S@%T. They knocked a few hundred off the sticker before I sprung the GMAC recent college grad rebate letter on them. That was another $1000 off, if I remember correctly, plus a little bit on the interest. I bought it on Halloween 1987. I was lucky because some dealers were marking them up then. I'll need to look for the stuff to confirm.

1987 Turbo T hardtop May of 1987 paid 14,637.08 (GM employee program) Sticker was a smidge over 17.

About $18,000 with taxes, etc... They were hard to find because as of 1-1-87, you could not deduct sales tax on a car on your federal income taxes. All cars were selling because of that.

I actually got $500 off the sticker price which seemed like a good deal then because some dealers were charging over stcker prices for them here in the suburbs of Chicago. Loren Buick and Cook Buick (now out of business:D ) were PIRATES, selling the turbo Regals!

Im the second owner, the bill of sale states cash delivered price of $19,583 (including tax).
stock msrp of $18744.00

I'm the 3rd owner but have all the original paperwork.Car was delivered to the 1st owner 12/13/86 with 9 miles listed for 16,594.With the dealer options under coating,antirust,paint sealant.16,998.plus tax in tags.2nd owner bill of sell said he paid 14,800 with 4,700 miles.I got it with 31,000 miles for alot less:D

$ 17,900 - early in '86

'86 GNAT orig owner
'87 Regal "T" w/ turbo daily driver

Use window sticker, not what you paid??

There are different scenarios to look at.

1. Purchase Price $17,900 on January 19, 1988,
delivered Feb 11, 1988

2. Window Sticker = $18,751
Destination charge $430
Options subtotal $6,759
MSRP = $ 11,562

Warranty 72 month/100,000 miles $840, waste of money!!, my car only has 36,000 miles

3. Dealer add-ons and markups.

Now this doesn't include any extras as mentioned in other replies

Example applied or installed 1987/1988
Auto Armor Fabric Protection applied at 10 miles for $199.00
Ziebart Rust Protection and undercoating $330
New Keystone Turbo Rims (stored GN wheels) $425
After market alarm $230

PLUS I have the customer satisfaction basic new vehicle and pre-delivery inspection procedure completed 7/24/1987 and everything else for the car, originally from delivery 1988.

Thought folks might be interested to know that $18,000 paid in 1987 is equivalent to $29,694 in inflation adjusted current (2004) dollars.

The conversion factor for 1987 is approximately 1.650, and for 1986 it is approximately 1.710. (Source: US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Stats converter at: BLS CPI calculator ).

These weren't cheap cars (unless you are comparing them to a Corvette of the same era ;) )

Insurance was the killer

When I was 22 yrs old, buying the car wasn't hard, but paying for insurance at 22 yrs old and a 87 GN, mine almost $1800 every 6 months. I originally looked at buying a 300 zx turbo, but state farm said they would not even carry insurance, so I moved on to the GN with real bumpers front and back.

Do the math, 18,000 car plus $300 insurance payments puts a loan at around $700/month in 1988. I paid cash, so I had a car payment for insurance.

Today I pay $50/month for around 6 months of the year and the GN is stored the other 6 months.

My GN was delivered to the Buick Dealership 7/24/1987 with Build date 07/87 and it sat on the lot for 6 months until Jan 19, 1988. There was no dealer markup, people were interested, but not at the price of $18,751 in 1987.

3rd owner here, the window sticker says $18,733, bought from Sudbay Pontiac-Cadillac-Buick in Glouchester MA.

May 1986. Sticker $18,888 negociated to $15,550 over the phone at a dealer in Lincoln Nebraska. When I got to the dealership, he offered me $3500 if I wouldn't buy the car. Said he had a buyer for $20,500! :eek:

1987 Turbo T purchased August 1987.

$11,562 MSRP

$ 4,945 Options subtotal

$ 430 Destination Charge
----------
$16,937 Total

$ 1,295 Dealer Markup
----------
$18,232 Total with BS

I paid $16,800 plus tax and license.

I have spent more than that since. But you gotta love a ten second street car that can be driven anywhere at almost 20mpg on the highway.
:D
