I would like to offer my customers the option of using credit cards directly instead of Paypal. Don't even know where to start. Any recommendations?

I think you start by getting hold of CC companies you want to deal with and register. I think there is a fee for this also.

IMO I would just stick with PayPal. You can pay with a CC via PayPal. PayPal is just like paying with a CC. I've taken CC's before and it's more money to you as the rate that PayPal takes is a little lower and taking CC's you sometimes pay a monthly fee for the equipment or they make you buy it. Stick with PayPal and if someone has a CC make them use PayPal. It's simple easy and cheaper for both!

Check with woever your bank is, I think it's what's called "merchant or commercial customer" services

I've received some complaints from customers that they don't trust Paypal but I haven't had any problems with them in the 3 years or so that I have been using them.

Just thought it might be another option to go with a maybe attract more customers. Been looking at some of the services that will work with my existing shopping cart but there sure seems like a lot of fees involved. Don't know if it would be worth it for a small business like mine.

Hey Mark, I've been with PayPal since day one when it was totally FREE! if you can picture that! :) Over that time I've rolled about 30K thru PayPal between selling stuff and buying stuff. Never one problem yet. PayPal hit a few bumps in the road as they went from a small company to a larger one. Now that ebay owns PayPal I'm pretty sure they got all the bumps out. Taking CC from a small business stand point as I own as well does not pay in the long run. One thing you may want to look into is Citi bank one of my CC's has a feature that lets you accept payments via CC. Not sure how it works and what's involved but I'm sure you could call Citi Bank and look into there. It cracks me up how people are afriad of electronic payments via PayPal but they don't mind to use their electronic payment via CC! :) Just tell them PayPal is one of the more secure ones. Also another thing you might want to look into is Western Union. Offer that and they won't have to worrry about their money. Just more foot work for you tho. Good Luck and keep up the awesome products!! :)

Mark you set it up with your bank. They can give you a merchant account. Just remember people who buy with a credit card also can cancell the purchase after they get the product or say the card was stolen or un-authorised for use. This has happened several times to me. You can lose thounds of dollars so be carefull. I dont know if that can happen with pay pal?
