Overheating

Can the transmission get hot enough to raise the temp of the engine coolant?
This is mostly an academic question. My trans is slipping in 3rd and 4th, makes strange noises, and leaves dark, gritty residue in the pan.

I am waiting for the clinic offered by Bruce and Richard and will also be sending my t.c. back to Precision for a check-up.

it is possible for it to raise it a few degrees .if it was getting hot enough to do that the trans would be damaged internally at this point.
