I have been using a clay bar to remove the overspray but it's taking forever and doesn't get into extremely tight spots. Is there a safe chemical that will remove overspray but not hurt the paint? Someone suggested I try WD40. Will it harm paint?

Do you know what kind of overspray paint is on your vehicle? I dont recommend using wd40. Has your car been repainted and if so what kind of paint was used....All of this makes a difference. Claybar is the safest however you can buff it off- but if you do that find someone that KNOWS what they are DOING.

factory paint. Clear overspray has gotten on it. Thanks

BUFF!

just Buff it till it looks good. just don't Buff to much:p or it will take the paint off:eek:

use wd 40 or even better kerosene. We used both in my old car dealer days. Won't hurt the paint.. trust me. I have used wd40 on my GN with great results when I got overspray on the body while detailing the engine..

Frank, I was wondering the same thing myself as I got some overspray on the hood/nose of the TTA....not bad but it's not nearly as glass smooth as the rest of the car. I'll try the WD40, Lord knows I have enough of that stuff in the garage! WD40 has got to be the best invention of its time.

do you spray it on the oversrpray and let sit, then wipe or do you spray on a rag and wipe?

overspray

If your car is clearcoated you can use lacquer thinner( cheap kind you use to clean gun with ). Pour it on a rag and then wipe the affected area. After the overspray is off just re-wax the area with a good quality wax. This is the fastest way to remove overspray. Just don't let the rag sit in any one spot for a while. Clay also works or you can try a medium polishing compound on the buffer. The trouble I have with wd-40 (being a painter) is that it is silicone based and if you ever want to paint in that area again the wd-40 soaks in and can cause horrible fish eyes. The same is true with kerosene. Also if it is a new good quality catalyst clearcoat wd-40 won't be that effective in removing it.

Here's the trick. Use butane lighter fluid. Pick your self up a small can for under $2 and soak a clean soft cotton towel w/ it. It's as simple as using Armor All protectant and as safe as soap and water. I used it to remove Rustoleum paint overspray from my GN ( and you all know how that stuff sticks ). It also makes the paint look wet. A friend who owns a carpet business turned me on to this when we were installing the flooring in my car hauler, and needed to remove some adhesive. It works great in removing stains and glue from carpets and ect. HTH Brian

It does work good on removing adhesive from carpet, if used sparingly you'll have no problems. However you must be extremly careful on how much you use on it ( carpet ). If you use too much the lighter fluid will deteriorate the latex in the backing and it will delaminate. Just for the record, I'm the flooring repair technician for the 2nd largest flooring company in KY for 15 years:D

If used sparingly you'll have no problems.

Just put your ragged GN beside the 6appeal and I'll show you a real easy way to get your overspray off! All in one shot!;)

your pimp-mobile wont be beside me long. Black stripes on that new gray will look good:D

Pimp-Mobile? Oh, that's right I got to take your girl uptown for the weekend!:D :p

Hey don't make me put Kevin on you...
