New member here... Don't have a GN (yet) but am currently playing around with an '83 Hurst/Olds... Been reading these forums for a long time b/c this seems to be the best place I have found for 200-4R info as well as chassis info.
Anyways, I have owned my H/O for about 3500 miles, and the car has 94,000 total miles on it. Supposedly the trans was "rebuilt" at 85,000, and I see grease markings on the top of the trans as a label like it had been pulled out. Ever since I have gotten it, the trans has had a multitude of problems... when I got it home, nobody had ever adjusted the TV right, just taking your foot off the brake and letting it idle down the street would shift it into 2nd, and it would be in O.D. by like 20 mph if I remember correctly. Anyways... the problems...
First, it clunks extremely loud whenever going from park to in gear (or rev. to drive, etc...) There are times I hear a soft clunk coasting up to a stop sign and it downshifts. Car has a brand new driveshaft with all new joints and yokes, a newly rebuilt 8.5" diff, and new trans and motor mounts. What causes this?
Second, the car always shifts extremely late and hard on a part throttle 1-2 shift, 2-3 isn't as bad... unless you really get your foot into it, in which case it shifts nice and mushy. It has done this no matter how I adjust the T.V. cable, although it feels like adjusting the T.V. changes it a little bit.
Third, I have a feeling that the correct valve body is out of the trans, since the car always upshifts by 4500 rpm if just left in drive and your foot is on the floor. How do I check the valve body to see if its correct?
Sorry for the long post... I would appreciate any input from anyone who can help.
Thanks!
Luke
