For those of you who didn't know, I put a trans from an '87 gn in my '86 gn the other day..once installed and we drove it the car would shift late outta 1st, go into 2nd and not go into 3rd and also the converter locked up when we came to a stop. (I have a TCC solenoid coming from GM tomorrow)

SO TONIGHT we swapped the shift cable (the other one was broken) and also swapped TV cables.
Well the 1-2 shift got alittle better..BUT THE DAMN THING JUST WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 3RD GEAR!!!!
There IS sufficient trans fluid..that's not a problem.
Tomorrow is the last night I can work on it this week because I'm going on a little vacation.
Tomorrow we're gonna put in a new trans filter and put in the TCC solenoid (as long as it came in) Now neither of these will probably have any influence on the non-existant 2-3 shift..but DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS??? IM DESPERATE!!

May be 2-3 shift valve stuck, 3rd/rev checkball, direct clutch prob's, or servo seals. Do know the condition/history of the trans proir to installing it and can you do a pressure check?

EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD HIM!!!! LOL:D

Bruce WE4

Marko, you on it boy......:D

How will I be able to tell anything unusual just by looking at is once we drop the pan?
Can you tell me how to identify stuck valves, etc and how to fix them?

Check this link....

Item #341 is the 2-3 shiftt valve, which requires droping the VB to check. If you don't have one it would be wise to get a manual before attemping to do so. You'll also probably need new VB gaskets, heck while your in there midaswell through Bruce's VB kit and PR system in there, they come with instruction, gasket and everything you'll need and his unsurpassed tech support.

Change in Plans...

Well here's the deal..The trans that we put in there after my original one stopped shifting was out of a fleetwood..It worked but I just couldnt deal with it becuase the car felt like it had no power and you had to let off the gas to shift, etc..well we took that trans to Cottman transmission (a VERY well known trans shop around here) and my friend from the shop is most likely gonna have that guy build me a "hot-rod" trans, pretty much a whole new vb, pumps, bands and everything for probably around $700.
Now it'd likely be more than that, but since I'm friends with the guy that owns the shop I've been going to, and he's friends with the guys at Cottman, they're pretty much gonna give me a big discount..but all I want is for this thing to work correctly and at the same time be fast..
During this whole time I've been without my car I've seen SO MANY car's on the highway's that I would've had so much fun with!!! Ricers, Mustang Cobra (with a hot chick driving!!) lol and things of that sort..
Thankfully, Jim (Vsix) is going to refund me the money that I gave him for the '87 trans that I bought for him, so that money will go toward building the new one..
Well I just thought I'd let you guys know what's up..
Wish me luck, heh
I'll post back once I know more.
Thanks for the help

Don't get rid of your valve body if it is the original BRF. Those are like gold and shouldn't be replaced during a rebuild unless it is cracked or every valve is destroyed. If a regular valve body is installed, there will be problems.

That other trans isn't a BRF trans..I dont even know what it is..but everyone's telling me to just trust this guy and that he'll build me something that's just as good or even better than a regular trans.

Good luck!

Not to knock their ability or anything and they may build great trannies, but unless they are fimilar with the 2004r you may not get what you want. Ask on the board or do a search of how many dissatisfied people are out there that have either had somebody do their "200-4R" trans or bought one for that matter from even the so called Pro's that are "SUPPOSED" to be experts with these. I bet you'll be suprised, they are a complex trannie and if you say "you want it to work and go fast" there's very few that can do that and make it right and make it last. Just food for thought and if you are starting out with a non-performance one to begin with it's even more of a task to do, just don't want to have to say we told you so in a month or so. ;)

I was telling the guys that want me to let this guy build the trans the same thing that you're telling me how the 200-4r is a complex trans and you cant really duplicate it..and they're pretty much acting as if I don't know what I'm talkin about, so it'll basically be US saying "I told ya so" to them if this doesnt work.
I've been gone for the past 3 days so I dont even know if they're definately going to do it. I'll have to find out and let you guys know.
