I am trying to paint a bad area in the fender, the results are good when it comes to the finish, but the color match is off. The new paint looks more grey than black when seen next to the original paint. I even tried going to a professional paint shop and had them put the camera to the original paint and they mixed me up a pint, but I had the same results. The new paint looks lighter in color next to the original. Am I doing something wrong? Just wondering if anybody has run into this problem.

Thanks
Matt

i have the same problem with bumper fillers i just painted. it matches the fender under normal light, but when the sun shines directly on it, you can tell it is 'off' compared to the fender. tried several times with different paint to no avail . i have found that using red oxide primer instead of grey primer helped alittle in the color match. i have a rear quarter panel to do, but won't even touch it yet until i can figure out the paint color match issue. hopefully someone on here will chime in with a solution. good luck

There was a thread on this issue some time back, My buddy who painted the 84s at Fisherbody in Flint said lack of quality control caused some finishes to look brown/black or grey/black or black with green and red speks.. some more metallic then others but all very slight...cant really tell untill you try and match it up.

He then went over to the Lansing plant and same thing...just production and once again perhaps lack of quality control at good ole GM in the 80's

I dont quite remember the thread but its here somewhere.

Good luck with everything and get it on the road to enjoy

Mike
