while i have the heads off the car for some porting/polishing work, i figured now would be the best time to upgrade the valvetrain parts on them. i already ordered a set of Comp 979 springs. should i replace anything else on the heads as well (like seals, valves, retainers, locks, etc)? any special procedures or tools i need to know about before i attempt the disassembly/reassembly? this will be my first time doing this kind of work and i dont want to screw anything up. i dont want to send it out to a machine shop cause none in my area are reputable. thanks in advance!

I would replace the retainers and keepers, you would be amazed how well worn these are when you get it apart. It would probably not be a bad idea to replace the seals as well. As far as tools, the Kirban's tool works very well on the Buicks. You need a spare rocker shaft, but a piece of 1/2" EMT conduit can be substituted. HTH.;)
