Is there an easy way to go about this? It looks like I might have to take the uppipe and downpipe off. A special wrench some one finds easier to get in there with or maybe taking off the passanger tire would be the best way.

i didnt have to take any of the turbo piping off. i used a 6" wobble extention, and a universal. these were for a 3/8 ratchet. you really have to be creative when going for those plugs. i had to go between the turbo pipes and whatnot to get them. it was a PITA, but it can be done

Yes, you can get them but it does take the right combination of extensions and a universal to do it. Be careful when putting in the new ones. The last thing you want to do is cross thread one of them. HTH.

Yes agreed. I used a wobble extention as well to get them out. You have to be a little creative when trying to get them off and put them back on. But it it way easier to do it this way then to take off the turbo uppipe. The first time I did that, it did not seal back properly, and I had a major leak. Took me awhile to get it off. So try using a Universal and see how that works. 2 words of advice. If you have the stock uppipe, be carefull, cause that metakl meshing is sharp and i got cut pretty good changing them. Also make sure the vehicle is cooled down if u were driving it, cause you would get borned in that situation. That one is common sence, but I thought I'd throw it it :D

Even though I don't own a hot air car, I use the following method to get the threads started, before putting the rachet on it. Use a little antisieze on the threads, and put a piece of vacuum hose on to the top of the plug. Then work the plug near the cylinder head hole and spin the vacuum hose until the plug seats up to the cylinder head. Then put you ratchet and combinations of extensions and spark plug wrench on to the plug and tighten. I've never had a cross thread problem with plugs.

I took off the tire, used a 20-inch extension attached to a 6-inch extension with a wobble, had a friend sit in the wheel well to guide things, and managed to knock out all three in less than 10 minutes. PITA, but it worked.

One other suggestion...Go to Sears and buy their spark plug socket with the universal joint as one piece...And as Vader suggested, use about a 2 ft extension...Buy one that is 2 ft long, don't connect 3 or 4 6" ext...They will come apart and drive you nuts...

Changing plugs on a stock 84/5 is a PITA, but once you put on a 2 1/2" or 3" DP, it is a living hell...No way to do it while the engine is hot, mainly because you can't pull the plug wire with everything hot...Bad enough to do cold....

pass side spark plugs

One more suggestion. tape all extensions and the plug socket together with electrical tape. It will save a lot of grief.
