Passenger side upper control arm bushings.....

The previous owner of my car had the driver's side replaced not too long ago but the passenger side is shot. The rearmost on the passenger side, too. Imagine that, huh?

Are there any "tricks of the trade" to make this job simpler/smoother?

I've been soaking the bolts on the bushing cross bar for a couple weeks now.

Does the downpipe have to be removed?

Thanks for any help,
Bill

it sounds very easy.

1. take off the tire
2. loosen the nuts where the shimms are and don't mix up.
3. pop the upper balljoint and the control arm comes rite out.
4. loosen the nuts on both ends where the bushings are.
5. the hard part getting the bushings out.
6. put the new bushing back in and put rod in bushing.
7. put the other side in sliding into rod .
8. put back in with shimms you took out and tighten nuts.
9. put the balljoint into spindle.
10. go to alignment shop.

all done hope it's easy:D

Sure SOUNDS easy!

That's the chain of events I'm hoping for.

No matter what, I'll be doing it myself.
I don't want to piss away any of my "Scanmaster savings fund" on labor. :)

Thanks for the input,
Bill

I did my own. I even built a press to do it. However I had to drill out the rubber on one bushing of the upper arms to get the thing out. It took a lot of drilling to pick out all the rubber. then I sliced the lip of the outer shell to make it easier to squash. Once out, pull out the cross shaft and then the other bushing is really easy to press out, even in a big vice. Reassembly is not big deal either.

If all goes well....

I may tackle this project THIS weekend, if not early next week.

Can't drive the car at this time anyway.

Thanks for all the input, folks.
Bill
