Anyone looking to buy some freedom series aluminum heads from Patriot should know some vital information. Overall, the product looks rather good, and the casting is phenomonal for the price! However, there are a few problems with them. First, quality assurance must not be up to par down there at Alabama Cylinder Head, because I recieved a head with a rocker stud that wasn't threaded all the way; yet they tried with all their might to torque it anyways. Fortuately, I was able to clean up the threads and dug out a stud from my old dirt track stash. Second, the lip for the valve cover gasket is way too narrow to use a perimiter bolt valve cover; it simply won't seal. No big deal if you can use a short valve cover but tall center bolt covers are a little pricey (unless you want those tacky chrome things)! And finally, they want to be a Vortec style head by using high intake runners, but when you slap a Vortec intake on, you have a massive gap to fill at the block! So, I test fit a standard intake on the thing, and it seats well against the block, but the tall runners don't provide enough gasket area for my comfort. So, I decided to run the Vortec intake and pray to God that my gasket goop holds up at the base. Also, I had to elongate the bolt holes a little to make a good intake fit, but this is fairly common. So after all of this, I will save myself a ton of hassle next time and spend the extra two hundred bucks for the Edelbrock aluminum heads. Once I get this thing finished up and ran on the dyno, I'll let you guys know more.

Some more frustrating things with these heads: I had to drill out the pushrod guides to get my roller rockers to properly align. The thing is almost ready for the dyno, sorry its taking so long but my two hot air cars take priority over this project.
