Peeling Clear Coat

On my Grand Am daily driver the clear coat is peeling on the trunk lid. I was wondering what the results would be if I "re-cleared" the trunk lid? Would it work or just make it look worse.

Apperently the 87 GN I am picking up tomorrow is doing the same thing on the hood and roof. He took close up pictures of it which look bad but the pictures he took from just a few feet away make it so you cant even notice it.

I am going to get it wetsanded this weekend or next week some time and then buffed and waxed. I have heard from more than a few people that this will make it look a million times better and possibly save me from getting the parts repainted.
