The Fenders are from "Crash and rust" here in NY. They are new aftermarket, alot lighter then stock. Thinner guage sheet metal. I forgot the weight but it is lighter. They were $50 a peice
Anyways. i just rather crawl over the bar, it doesnt sit to high that would make a pain to get over. Also i have no door bars so i just made it solid.
Reason why i did shave the driprails, cause yes, it does look cleaner. i always wanted to see a gn with no moldings, and i did it. im just suprised on how it came out. plus its a track car so i wont have to worry about rain coming inside the car
Someone asked on how i did it, heres how
Step 1; have alot of time on your hands. 4 coronas w/lime and then dicide that your actually going to do this.
When you first cut the rail off, i cut it as close as i can, plus when you do cut it, it seperates the outer and inner roof. When i first cut it theres a lip that i grinded down flat. Now for the fun and ugly part. At first it looks like garbage but comes out nice. You must tac together the 2 peices, do not run a full bead or it will twist the metal! Grinded down the welds. Then i layed a few layers of fiberglass to go up,under and over the roof to have a nice smooth rail on the edge, you have to start sanding on the top side first to get the body line straight. Then you smooth out the side, fiberglass leaves tiny holes all over so i used a glazing puddy to fill in the rest and presto. Nice little project. If you arent as insane as i am, i suggest not doing it.....lol
The next thing to be finished is the alluminum door panels. Those will be carpeted on the ends for the custom fit rounded edges and also to retail the alluminum. I jsut need to find inside sill weather stripping.
Plus alot more to follow, stay tuned.....
