pinion bearing shims
Hi,
I had my 8.5 apart before, and there was no shim on mine either.I replaced it as such, with a new bearing, and did the torque test.It passed, so I did not feel the need to do the pinion depth test. Also, I replaced the carrier bearings, and put the shims in stock locations.Backlash was under .020, so I left that alone too. The result was a very smooth, quiet axle that has gone 10K since repair.I'm sure it's not dead nuts, but, at least at my hp level, it has fulfilled expectations. 8.5 axles are pretty tough, afterall.
