i didnt go, but a friend said there was some good racing. sounds like there were a couple of pretty fast buicks.

-Jeff

John Nguyen and Ryan Mosley made it to the sweet 16.

Unfortunately Ryan broke on a pass, bur John Nguyen made it to the top 3.

In his first elimination run he took out the 81 chevy luv that was on pinks a while back, smoked him bad too.

Unfortunately in all the excitement in his last elimination lineup,John forgot to engage his trans brake and the car jumped when he went to build boost. He did a great job and that was something that could happen to anybody.

FWIW he was the only street car left in the top 3.The others were purpose built race cars that would never see street duty.

I thought this was a street legal event? A friend took his 70 GS, he ran his best time ever, but didn't make the cut.

I think they kind of ignored that part to keep the turnout high  .

Someone in our group had overheard that they were looking for 10.0-10.5 cars.

The time trials were interesting. You made one time trial on the clocks and they gave you a slip, next time trial you get no time on the board,no slip. They kept an eye on the times to make sure there was no major difference between runs.If you sandbagged you went home,no BS.

Those that got there late got no timeslips at all.

Johns first time trial was I think 10.35@ 132 or something close to that.

Is this the same rules for every other time they've filmed a show? If so, they got a funny way of heads up racing...it's more like a BS type bracket racing to me. As for running their cars all out....how in the hell can they do that if they're always bitching about how much Nitros the compitetion is running and always wanting them to unbolt the bottle? I'm no pro racer but I was raised you: "Run what you brung and pray you brung enough!" Lenghts is for bracket racing only! Oh well, I guess you wouldn't have a show if you did that ;)

yea, I popped a HG, first time to do that in years!!! I went 10.003 @ 132 off the trailer w/out the juice, lost to a 5.60 bracket car with electronics, chute, bars, etc... but it was a fun race. I was glad to see another buick in it and I met john and them who were all really cool guys! I was voted back in, went another round and lost the HG. oh well thats racin..... It was good meeting those that were there, I look forward to seeing you again!---ryan

Ryan, what was the deal on getting voted back in? I wasn't down at the starting line around that time and was wondering? I forgot to ask you about it. (I was the guy talking to you there at the end along with Dick Walker if you remember)
Sorry about the HG, I hope that's all it was.
I know you said you were going to Noble, any chance on going to Rusk on Sept. 23 for the Buick X Bash?

Not at this event it was all heads up. There were 305 car (6 Buicks) not bad  They took a final of 16 cars, the closet 16 cars they could find by your time trial et's and lined em up heads up.
These turned out to be 10.0 to 10.5 cars.
If you did sandbag a little on those two time trials and ran to fast (in the final 16) by there estimation your win would be awarded to the other guy and you were out. It did happen to a couple of the cars that won to only find out they went to fast (sandbagged) and lost.

Heck of a deal, I'll have to keep an eye out for that episoid...I may need some reminding seeings how I don't watch that show that much.

What an event. I have not seen the stands that crowded since the old NMCA events.
Ryan - Nice run, your car was on a mission that last past for sure. It was really nice talking to you. I was really wanting to see us take all the race cars out and see a final with only Buicks but it was still nice that we got in the top 16.
It took us 2 days to recoop from lack of sleep. Early there after a night of thrashing on the car and late a late night getting home.
I think they did an outstanding job except for the waiting around til dark. They really tried to push everyone so there was no sand baggers which made for a nice round of racing at the end.
Allot of cameras, mics, people running around that tried there best to make it flow good. that's show biz. It will be interesting to see all the footage and what they keep and throw out.

Had fun.
Larry

Larry, likewise- I hope to see you guys again! I killed the HG pretty bad!!! here are some photos..... I will have the rest down by friday and take a peek @ the rods & mains etc... I have another block I might throw 2gether for noble, I am gonna stay with my old 45A and see if I can get a .50 outta it!!!! Take care, Ryan

Ryan,

Good to meet ya'll Houstonites! You've got to get that HG fixed and make it to NOBLE!

I simply had a blast.. and biggest thrill of my life to be in the Pinks Race. I just don't know how to top it now...at least as far as racing is concerned... It really didn't hit me until we rolled out to be staged in the half circle.

Guys... thanks for all of the support.. would not have been the same without the crew.

I will try to bust into the 9's at Noble. The car will not do it as it sits.. but surely will with exactly 3 new parts.

Back to studying now.

Cheers.
John
