Hi guys/gals. I have been reading on the site for about 3 months now. I fianally figured out I need help!!!! I have an 85 GN that I cant get to idle right. I bought a turbo link, and all numbers look good. How tight should the stock wastegate be??? I dont think I'm getting any boost. I have replaced almost all the sensors. The car is all stock, good fuel pressure, voltage is good, TPS and IAC are set correctly. o2 numbers are all over the place.....brand new sensor. It will go from 500 to 0 to 200?????
I have checked all grounds ...look good. could this be a MAF sensor???? running out of options/patients......Also when I unplug the o2 sensor the turbo link still shows 300-400, is this correct? Sorry for the long post. Thanks for help...you will be hearing more from me!!!!

What is your MAF reading at idle?
What is is your BLM?

O2 sensor at idle will roam, that is normal. Check for vacuum leaks by spraying an unlit propane torch or carb cleaner around the top of the motor or any possible areas that could be leaking. If there is a leak, the motor will suck in the propane and rev up or smooth out the idle. A vacuum leak will also be indicated by high BLM numbers. Check all vacuum lines with a vacuum pump if you have one to make sure there are no leaks, or if you don't you can replace them one at a time with new lines, making sure to keep track of where they go. What happens if you unplug the MAF sensor while idling, does it smooth out? You can also try tapping the maf sensor with the handle of a screwdriver while idling, and if the motor stumbles the sensor is probably bad. Please note that this test does not always work though, If you have access to a known good maf, that is the best way to check. Also, are your plug wires/plug gaps good?

If the above suggestions do not work, let me know. I may be able to help.

I had the same problem for about a year. Everything was correct as far as sensors were concerned but still the rough idle and would die several times until it was warmed up. It would also hesitate until about 30 mph, then it would take off like a scared rabbit. My last option was to change out the coil pack and module. That did the trick, no more hesitation and it would start right up and idle perfect.

O.K. just went out. I let the car warmup, and tapped on the maf sensor.....no change. I also unplugged it .....no change. I ohmed the coil pack and that seems good to. Does this mean it is the sensor??? thanks, Dave

If unplugging the maf made it idle better, or tapping it made it worse, than I would say the maf is highly suspect. If not though, you can't really say for certain. The Maf is one of those sensors that you pretty much have to swap out with a buddy's known good one, because I know of no Maf testing devices. Like jacksorroche said, if you can swap the coil pack/module with a known good one that would also be a good test. Did you happen to get BLM numbers yet?

blm numbers are are around 127. Tapping the maf sensor did nothing, also unplugging it with the car running had no effect. I dont know anybody I can borrow a good sensor/ coil+moduale from. I just hate to keep throwing money at it if I dont have to. Thanks again, Dave.

Crap, crap!!!! I gave you some bum info dude, it wasn't the coil pack and module that I replaced, it was the MAF!! Sorry for the bad info.

Tell you what dude, I have an 84/85 coil pack and module, and MAF that I am not using. For the price of shipping, I'll send them to you. Let me know what you think.

I will try replacing the maf sensor....hopefully that will take care of it. Also its running extremely rich at idle. If someone changed the chip, could this be causing alot of problems?? The e-prom on the t-link says 18b4?????? any ideas??? thanks, Dave

Something is strange.
How do you know she is running rich at idle? You stated earlier your BLM are at 127 but she is running rich?
What are your O2's doing and what is your INT at?

I know its running rich because the smell and all the crap coming out of the tail pipe. both blm and int are around 125-130. One thing I dont know if it has the factory chip in it or not....The t-link says PROM # 18b4????? If it has the wrong chip in it, that would cause the rough running no matter what I do ....correct ???? I dont know how to check... Any info would help. Thanks for all the help.......Someday it will run!!!!
