I had been chasing a code 44 for a while and just got the car all back together and the problem sorted out. It turned out I had a cracked DS header (what a surprise) and a junk MAF. I fixed the header and the problem was still there, so bought a Translator and LT1 MAF. Fired the car up, runs great.

Of course I can't resist taking it out and having some fun, so I take it out and make a go WOT a few times. Every time it popped and sputtered with no knock, and o2 counts of 780-820. It does it in every gear. I noticed this problem once with the old MAF (the last time I drove the car before putting the LT1 MAF on).

I've been searching this site, the "other" site and gnttype, haven't found a good answer. So time to make a post. :)

From what I've read, it looks like its either ignition related, timing chain or cam sensor. I've ruled out most of these, but you never know.

1. Cam sensor is tight, checked first.
2. timing chain should be fine, the motor is a 15k mile GM crate.
3. coil pack is new, plugs are new (AC CR42TS, gapped to .035), wires are new

I'm clueless. Lets hear it. :)

Possibly valve springs too?

Possibly... but the motor only has 15k on it (even though it sat for awhile before going into my car).

Is there an easy way to check either (valve springs or timing chain)?

Try a set of R43TSs at .030.

Got a Direct Scan?

Why would I need to run 43's all of a sudden? The car has been running 42's for a while with no problems.

No, unfortunately I don't have DS yet. I know someone that has it, so I may try to hook it up and figure it out.
