212 MPH

Unbelievable. Porsche on the Autobahn onModern Marvels. Can you imagine driving a car that fast? I have driven a Mustang up to 130 it was smooth but very responsive to any minor input. When I was a teen I got my 78 Nova up to 125 and thought the world was ending, it was rough loud, felt like the car was steering itself. That is nothing like 212. I do not think that I could bring myself to drive that fast while passing traffic and driving through the country.

if i could have one car in the world, that would be it.

i don't think it would be all that bad at high speeds. basically its an indy car with a full body and nice interior. i'm sure no corners were cut in the suspension of it. who knows, it might even have computer controlled steering to compensate for speed so you dont' over steer. for that kind of money it better make you a cup of coffee too.

the fastest i've been is 128 in my bmw 330i and i will say it was'nt shaking at all

I love the autobahn. Hence my avatar.

I've had a Porsche (not RUF) blow by me before while I was going 100mph on the autobahn. Funny that something can make you look like you're sitting still at that speed.

Fastest I've been on the autobahn was 145mph driving to Munich. It's amazing the degree of focus you have at those speeds. You really get a 'tunnel' vision, the faster you go. You stop paying attention to people in the car, radio, everything. Just what's in front of you and what's in your mirror. (Yes, things still creep up on you from time to time at that speed)

Wish I could have seen the special on TV. Perhaps when I get back to the states.

I've had my 84 bmw up to 185k. It felt like a cheap go cart where the front wheels just kinda bounced around

does my 87 gn have any type of govener?

Think they're limited to 125, but if your GN feels as"floaty" as my '87 T does, the real governor will be your own common sense and desire to live :D

Fastest I've gone in a car is an indicated 120 in my '93 Dodge Shadow ES V6, felt OK, but I was getting a little nervous and backed off.

Was up to an indicated 125 on my '99 Suzuki SV650, had some more in it, but I chickened out.

Had my '03 Suzuki SV1000 up to an indicated 120, but wasn't trying for any kind of speed run, just decided to teach my Harley riding buddy/neighbor a lesson in real power, and left him in the dust, lol. Just looked down after a few seconds and happened to see it nudge past 120. 10 second bikes are fun :D

hey welby was the shadow all stock? i had a 94 shadow es v6 that i could only get to 115mph and that was it.

Y up, all stock with a 5 speed... Keep in mind, this is what the speedo said, and I was on a few miles long slightly downhill stretch :D

It actually was a fun car though, and pretty quick for what it was :)

all this talk of going fast makes me want a fast car!

i've done 110 in my old vega. stable as could be at that speed, no light feeling, no over sensitive steering, nothing; just smooth. BUT that was down hill, the little 4 cyl. was turning nearly 5k to do that, and it was all she had.

i've had my T up to 120 with it still pulling pretty hard. but when the car starts to turn into an airplane, thats when i said thats enough. flyings fun (even in the T, i've done that once over a hill on a road) but landing isn't. something about not having wings or any controll just makes it not fun.

i still want to go that fast in 1/4 mile!

German cars are smooth at high speed.

I've taken my Audi A6 2.8 wagon up to 130+ and it is very smooth. Just a little too much wind noise at that speed though (nothing compared to the GN though, heh love those windows!) and things come up really quick.

I think I took my GN up to 120 or so and that disconnected floaty feeling comes on and makes you a bit uncomfortable. I'd want to upgrade the brakes and suspension on my next one before going really fast.

Me and my brother took his ZR-1 that he used to own up to about 145 and the car was still pulling well. This was in fifth gear and thae car was smooth as silk, but it was designed to be. :D
