Last night I was out messing with the Regal, and I couldn't get it to start. When I first tried to start it, all I heard was a clunk noise. I turned the by hand and it would turn completely, full rotation, and sometimes it would get stuck, and you would hear is a clunk. When I tried turning the ignition on, the car almost started, but backfired through the exhaust and didn't come on. I'm in the process of removing the timing cover, but what do you guys think it can be?

Take the cap off the cam senor and have someone bump the ignition. You can even take the mechanical fuel pump delete plate off to look at the chain.

I just learned about the mechanical fuel pump opening. I have the front end of the engine nearly completely off, but have to wait till tomorrow to get an impact. I'll try to see if I can look in there now, for the time being.

I took a peak through the cam sensor opening, and it looks like a brand new timing set. I couldn't get my hands in an impact gun to get it fully opened up, but will do so tomorrow. It's starting to look like it might need a rebuild. Anybody in the Bay Area, California know where I could possibly find an engine for an '85 T Type?

By the way, it wasn't a nylon cam gear. Two more questions: how hard is it to remove the oil pan on these cars, and will I have to lift the engine to get it completely off?
