I have 46,000 miles. Brakes work but are very soft, light comes on at start up and either goes off right away or within about 5 seconds. Has never came on while driving, never not been able to stop quickly if necessary. New pads and rotors on front, new shoes, wheel cylinders and drums on back. Also all new rubber hoses, no leaks. For comparison, on a scale of 1 to 10, braking on my TTA is a 10, GN is about a 5. Question is this: how soft should the pedal be? Is there some maintenance item that I can do to improve them? Will do a conversion to hydro but want to wait till this winter in the meantime is there a way to improve what I've got?

Unfortunately the cost of any of the parts individually are still more then the hydro boost or vacuum brake conversion would cost.
