Well,the dippy bitch at the gas station pumped 10 gallons of 89 octane piss into the gn today:mad: .not exactly condusive to my tuning with 24º and approaching 21psi.

so while i was at the race gas distributor buying 5 gallons of 118 leaded to counteract her redardation i saw that i can buy a 5 gallon pail of unocal methanol for $13.50.i asked what kind of methanol lube they had and they sell power plus top lube.they said it's what all the sprint car/drag guys buy for their methanol cars.

anybody have any experience with this stuff?

btw,it's $9 a bottle,and one bottle treats 55 gallons:eek: .i'm guessing i'd probably use more than is prescribed,especially with an smc pump.

oh yeah,for red regal t-i know that you've never used any lube in your $2.50 diy alky kit that's worked flawlessly for 67 years,but until you run straight methanol your opinion means jack sh!t,so zip it.

Klotz is what I use in my alky mix and it's what Steve recommends for his kits. So far it's worked great...

I'm just waiting for Red's reply.. :D

that's all I use as well, in the Regal and the dragster...the hard decision is what scent to buy :D

I use a capful per gallon

OK.....I won't tell everybody you're pissed because you spent $250 too much for your alchy kit and now you have to spend more money for stuff I don't need just so you can go SLOWER than me. :p

oh,that's right.i forgot that you need a te-44,msd50's,a stretch intercooler and a 3" dp to go mid 12's:rolleyes: .last time i checked there were guys with stock turbo/injectors/intercooler and dp going bottom 12's.looks like you wasted a lot of money yourself...

so you use the power plus stuff in your alky injection?cool.are you running straight methanol?which pump are you using?

they did have a bunch of different "flavors" there too.:cool: i wonder how it would smell coming out the tailpipe:D.
 
I'm not out to set any records. However fast or slow my car is, it runs that way ALL THE TIME.......239,000 miles worth. Not some weekend only car that I bring to the track so I can get some great time slip I can brag about while my car sits in the garage. :rolleyes:

Hey, I bet if I take out that 1/3 water I mix with the methanol to run it straight, I could improve my 1/4 mile time to 12.50, or maybe not. What do ya think?
 
WFO - I run a floJet pump.
Right now, I'm running denatured...when that's gone I'm switching over to metanol.
 
The lube is needed becuase of the style of pump the SMC kit uses(steel roller). It is not needed with the shureflow.

Dont get a fragrance thats smells like antifreeze..
 
Unfortunately, the local race shop doesn't have it scent free.
I got cherry...although, you can never smell it (thank God)

even with straight methanol?i'm pretty sure lee thompson is running klotz with his shurflo and straight methanol.maybe for peace of mind?

i'm not sure if he's running the same one you guys are.8000-643-210 is the # he gave me.it also cost more than you guys are paying(a little over $100).

he must be doing something right,he's gone 10.7x's with no intercooler:eek: :cool: .
 
I'm pretty sure its not the uplon that's putting lee's car in the 10's. :) I used to run the stuff because everyone else did, but forgot to add it about 4 months ago and haven't since, so far so good.
 
I base my statement on three facts,
One REDREGALT never uses it :D
Two, there was a post where someone had a leak on their pump after 6 months, they were using Klotz.
Three, statement from steve at SMC saying that klotz(petroleum) can cuase the plastic to swell.

Three independant sources with relevant claims..no klotz here either.

Thats why you cant run gasoline but you can run methanol with the shureflow. Bet if you ran gasoline it would kill the pump in short order.

As far as pumps, I doubt there is a car that can handle 1.8 gallons per minute flow. The 2687 shureflow rocks.

You will never hear not enough pump...

so it looks like while i'm running the smc pump i'll use some top lube(one capful per tank?),then if i go shurflo later it'll be straight up .

oh,and you might be right about lee having something else going on...;)most hotairs don't run that good,do they?:p
 
Would MMO be sufficient lube? Or the Top Lube you described the only way to go with methanol?
 
i'd only use something that's designed for methanol.

Again, lube is pump dependant. Dont use lube with plastic pumps.

MMO works great with an EFI pump(SMC)...not..not..not the shureflow shureflow shureflow ;)
 
Never could understand why they let retards pump gas in Oregon.
Good thing you caught it or you could of detonated a motor.
Hope you didnt pay for the crappy gas!

Thanks, Ive currently still got the F150 pump and using MMO. Havent started using Methanol yet. Dont know how this pump will hold up with it, even using the MMO.
